March 15 Church

There were a total of 12 in the morning service today, our highest attendance for regular services.  The Yoshimoto, Taitano and Kuramae, and Iwanaga families came (2 each)

There were two 5-year-old kids today so I had a class to teach.  The lesson was on the Lost Sheep.  The kids help me with the flannel graph alot  :-)

Grey Heron

Looking out the kitchen window toward our neighbor's rice field, this grey heron was wandering around.

It makes an appearance on occassion.  In the summer it stalks the frogs and tadpoles in the rice fields filled with water.

Time for Cleaning

It was a beautiful day in Kato City.  I got down into the ditch around the Kato Church.  It's a good 4 feet deep, and I cut out all the weeds and at least three small trees, making five large bags of trash to take away.  What's left  are piles of dirt along the wall. I would have removed that, but there was no place to put it, so it stayed.   While I did that, Henry and Fukumoto pressure cleaned the back wall of the building facing the main road.   The flowers below were given to us by the owner's wife and she comes over and takes care and waters them for us.

Thursday tree stump removal

Steve hired a man to remove two large and one small stump in the front yard. The machine is remote controlled and I watched it come off the trailer and move to the first stump. Then it started cutting it up. There's a large circular blade in front and it moved back and forth over the stump, spreading little chunks and making a bunch of mulch.
The guy said he makes these machines and after his day job around 3:30 he goes out and does the job he really likes. It's nice to meet someone who loves what he does. It took all of 20 minutes to do the three stumps.

Yard Cleanup

Steve's backyard loaded with fallen oak leaves

Steve using a leaf blower to gather the leaves in the front yard
A city crew came with a large vacuum and sucked up the leaves at the street
There were three stumps in the  front yard. Steve had a man come with his spiffy machine and it sawed/chewed the stump into mulch.  It has a huge circular blade that moves back and forth using a remote control

The man told us he designs these machines and loves removing stumps after his day job.  It took all of 20 minutes to remove the three stumps.
