August 11, 2015, Biltmore, Asheville, NC

Stephen took us up to North Carolina to see the home built by George Vanderbilt about 1900 for just him, his wife and daughter at the time.  Some 43 bathrooms, three floors for servants quarters, one huge dining hall that has the biggest pipe organ I've ever seen.  The table when extended could seat 60 people.  The Guilded Age at its finest.  Photography was not permitted inside the house, so you'll have to go to the website to get a glimpse of it.   It is still family owned, but they have not live in the house since the 1950's, but somewhere on the 8,000 acres of property.  Fascinating bit of American history.  http://www.biltmore.com     This family gave back to the community by providing several types of schools for the locals. Now they employ some 2,000 people to keep up the building and to provide tours.
